Reliable Engine Repair for Cars and Trucks

When performance begins to decline, professional inspection and repair help uncover the cause and restore the reliability you count on every day.

Master Tech did the brakes on my BMW, they also checked over the full car, and advised with photos what else is recommended. They did a great job and also were able to show me the older brakes. I highly recommend them for any maintenance or repairs!

Why Drivers Trust Master Tech Automotive for Engine Repair

Modern engines are built to last, but they still require expert care when problems arise. A rough idle, unusual engine noise, reduced power, or an illuminated check engine light can all point to issues that deserve prompt attention. Ignoring these warning signs may allow minor concerns to develop into major engine damage, leading to more extensive repairs and higher costs.

Master Tech Automotive provides repair backed by experienced technicians, advanced diagnostic equipment, and a commitment to getting the repair right the first time. Every vehicle is carefully evaluated to identify the actual source of the problem before any work begins. Rather than replacing parts unnecessarily, we focus on accurate diagnostics and practical repair solutions that improve performance and support long-term engine health.

Common Signs You May Need Engine Repair

If your vehicle has been showing any of these symptoms, it’s time to have it inspected:

Excessive smoke from the exhaust

Excessive exhaust smoke is often an indication of an internal engine or fuel system problem that requires diagnosis and repair. Blue smoke typically indicates that engine oil is entering the combustion chamber due to worn piston rings, damaged valve stem seals, or excessive cylinder wear. White smoke may suggest coolant is being burned as a result of a blown head gasket, cracked cylinder head, or damaged engine block, while black smoke commonly indicates an overly rich air-fuel mixture caused by faulty fuel injectors, a malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator, restricted air intake, or a defective mass airflow (MAF) sensor. Additional causes may include turbocharger seal failure on turbocharged engines or malfunctioning engine management sensors that affect fuel delivery.

A vehicle that shakes or idles roughly is often experiencing an engine performance or mechanical issue that requires diagnosis and repair. Common causes include worn spark plugs, failing ignition coils, clogged or malfunctioning fuel injectors, vacuum leaks, a dirty throttle body, restricted air intake components, or a faulty mass airflow (MAF) sensor, which can lead to engine misfires or an unstable idle. Additional causes may include low engine compression due to worn piston rings, damaged valves, head gasket failure, or incorrect valve timing from a worn or damaged timing chain or timing belt. Worn or damaged engine mounts can also allow excessive engine movement and transfer vibration into the vehicle during idle.

A check engine light that stays on often indicates that the engine has detected a fault requiring diagnosis and repair. Common engine-related causes include worn or fouled spark plugs, failing ignition coils, fuel injector malfunctions, vacuum leaks, low engine compression, timing issues, or problems with engine sensors such as the mass airflow (MAF) sensor, crankshaft position sensor, or camshaft position sensor. Mechanical concerns, including damaged valves, worn piston rings, or a failing timing chain or belt, can also trigger the warning light. In addition, issues affecting the air-fuel mixture or engine emissions, such as intake manifold leaks or exhaust system faults, may cause the light to remain on.

Knocking, tapping, or other unusual engine noises are often signs of internal wear, lubrication concerns, or failing engine components that require diagnosis and repair. Common causes include low engine oil levels, contaminated or degraded oil, worn connecting rod bearings, main bearings, piston components, or excessive internal engine clearances. Tapping or ticking noises may result from worn valve train components such as hydraulic lifters, rocker arms, camshaft lobes, or timing chain tensioners. Additional causes may include damaged timing chain components, failing engine accessories, loose or damaged internal parts, or abnormal combustion conditions such as engine detonation.

Frequent engine overheating

This is caused by a malfunction within the engine cooling system or an internal engine condition that requires prompt diagnosis and repair. Common causes include low coolant levels, coolant leaks, a failing water pump, a stuck thermostat, a clogged or damaged radiator, restricted coolant passages, or inoperative electric cooling fans. A slipping or broken drive belt, faulty radiator cap, or collapsed radiator hose can also reduce the cooling system’s ability to regulate engine temperature. In more severe cases, overheating may result from a blown head gasket, cracked cylinder head, or damaged engine block, allowing coolant loss or combustion gases to enter the cooling system. Continued operation while the engine is overheating can lead to significant engine damage.

The engine is experiencing an underlying performance, fuel delivery, electrical, or mechanical issue that requires diagnosis and repair. Common causes include failing fuel pumps, clogged fuel injectors, restricted fuel filters, weak ignition components such as spark plugs or ignition coils, or engine misfires that reduce power output. Air intake problems, including a restricted air filter, vacuum leaks, throttle body issues, or a malfunctioning mass airflow (MAF) sensor, can also prevent the engine from receiving the proper air-fuel mixture. Additional causes are faulty engine management sensors, a restricted exhaust system, low engine compression from worn internal components, or incorrect valve timing caused by a damaged timing chain or timing belt.

The engine is experiencing an underlying ignition, fuel delivery, electrical, or mechanical issue that requires diagnosis and repair. Causes include worn spark plugs, failing ignition coils, a weak or failing fuel pump, clogged fuel injectors, restricted fuel filters, or improper fuel pressure, all of which can prevent proper combustion. Faulty engine sensors, such as the crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, engine coolant temperature sensor, or mass airflow (MAF) sensor, can also interfere with engine starting and performance. More causes are low engine compression due to worn piston rings, damaged valves, a failed head gasket, or incorrect valve timing caused by a damaged timing chain or timing belt.

This is an indication of an underlying engine performance, fuel system, or emissions-related issue that requires diagnosis and repair. Causes include failing oxygen sensors, malfunctioning mass airflow (MAF) sensors, faulty engine coolant temperature sensors, worn spark plugs, failing ignition coils, or clogged fuel injectors, which can cause the engine to operate with an incorrect air-fuel mixture. Additional causes are vacuum leaks, restricted air intake components, carbon buildup, improper ignition timing, fuel pressure problems, or a partially restricted exhaust system. Mechanical issues such as low engine compression, excessive internal engine wear, or incorrect valve timing from a worn or damaged timing chain or timing belt can also contribute to reduced fuel economy.
