Thumping or clicking during acceleration can be caused by worn CV joints, loose or worn universal joints (U-joints), excessive play in the driveshaft, or worn differential gears, which can produce repetitive noises as drivetrain components rotate under load.

Causes of this are worn CV joints, uneven torque transfer from a failing differential, excessive play in the driveshaft or axle shafts, or deteriorated engine or transmission mounts, which can introduce vibration or inconsistent power delivery that affects steering stability during acceleration or load changes.
